First off, the disappointing news – the new season of Silent Witness STILL isn't on the upcoming BritBox schedule. It's the number one topic we've been getting emails about, and we know it stinks – but we're just the messengers here. The good news? The August BritBox lineup includes more Escape to the Country (celebrity edition!) AND a new season of Sister Boniface Mysteries (among lots of other great shows).

Celebrity Escape to the Country premieres August 15th

Celebrity Escape to the Country, Season 1

If you find yourself favoring the Escape to the Country episodes with bigger budgets, you'll probably like this celebrity edition of the show (and frankly, if you're not living in the UK it's fairly unlikely you'll know the celebrities, anyway). Follow along as people escape the noise of the city for lovely, idyllic homes in the British countryside. Season 1 includes guests like Cheryl Baker, Christopher Biggins, and Dr. Ranj.

Five hour-long episodes in total, airing weekly.

Sister Boniface Mysteries returns August 19th

Sister Boniface Mysteries, Season 4

The crime-solving nun returns in another season of mysteries set in the picturesque village of Great Slaughter. It’s the mid-1960s, and Sister Boniface (Lorna Watson, Father Brown) continues to assist the local police with her sharp mind and scientific expertise—when she’s not riding her moped or tending to the convent’s winemaking.

This time around, a scarecrow appears to be on a killing spree, the village women launch a general strike, and the police try their hand at “team building.” Even a planned weekend retreat with the sisters turns into another unexpected investigation for Sister Boniface.

Episodes will be released weekly, 8 in total. Catch up on previous seasons HERE

August 26th Premieres

Playing Nice premieres August 26th

Playing Nice (2025)

Set against the striking backdrop of the Cornish coast, this psychological drama follows two couples who discover their sons were accidentally switched at birth. Pete (James Norton, Happy Valley) and Maddie (Niamh Algar, Suspect) are devastated to learn the truth and are suddenly drawn into the lives of the other parents, Miles (James McArdle, Andor) and Lucy (Jessica Brown Findlay, The Flatshare).

Initially, all four agree on a way forward—but as emotions rise and buried tensions surface, trust begins to erode. Each couple is forced to question the motives of the other, and even their own. As the situation spirals, Pete and Maddie find themselves willing to do whatever it takes to hold on to the family they’ve built.

Two episodes released on premiere, followed by one episode weekly (total of 4 episodes).

Last Tango in Halifax premieres on August 26th

Last Tango in Halifax (2012 to 2020)

Alan (Derek Jacobi, Good Omens) and Celia (Anne Reid, The Sixth Commandment) were childhood sweethearts who lost touch for nearly 60 years—until a chance online reunion rekindles their connection. Now both widowed and in their 70s, they fall in love again and decide to marry.

But their relationship doesn’t just bring them together—it also brings together their very different families. Celia’s daughter Caroline (Sarah Lancashire, Happy Valley) is a high-achieving head teacher juggling work, two sons, and the fallout from her husband’s affair. Alan’s daughter Gillian (Nicola Walker, Annika) is a no-nonsense farmer with financial struggles and a complicated past. As the two women adjust to their parents’ whirlwind engagement, family tensions—and unexpected bonds—begin to emerge.

All five seasons premiere on August 26th (24 episodes in total).

Happy Valley premieres August 26th

Happy Valley (2014 to 2023)

Sarah Lancashire (Black Doves, Last Tango in Halifax) stars as Sergeant Catherine Cawood in this acclaimed crime thriller set in West Yorkshire. Juggling the demands of frontline policing with personal grief, Catherine is a determined officer in a community plagued by addiction, poverty, and violence. Her world is shaken when Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton, Playing Nice), the man she believes drove her daughter to suicide, is released from prison.

As the series unfolds, Catherine investigates a series of disturbing crimes—from a kidnapping gone wrong to a string of murders suggesting a serial killer—and finds herself repeatedly drawn into the orbit of Tommy Lee. In the final chapter, a gangland murder reopens old wounds just as Catherine’s grandson Ryan (Rhys Connah, The White Princess) begins to question the truth about his father. Written by Sally Wainwright (Riot Women), the drama explores justice, family, and the lasting impact of trauma.
